Parliament Convenes Extraordinary Session
1 / 20

On August 17, at the initiative of the Government the extraordinary session of the National Assembly was convened. The draft law on Making Addenda to the Law on Approving the Annual and Complex Programmes for the Restoration, Preservation, Reproduction and Use of Lake Sevan Ecosystem was on the agenda.

At the beginning of the sitting, by the proposal of the NA Speaker Alen Simonyan the deputies honoured the memory of the two servicemen of the RA Armed Forces fallen as a consequence of Azerbaijani aggression on August 16.

The Chair of the RA Water Committee Karen Sargsyan has presented the NA draft decision, according to which, it is proposed to carry out the debate of the legislative initiative included in the agenda in the second reading in the special procedure, during 24 hours after its adoption in the first reading and set three hours for submitting the proposals in written form on the draft law and the conclusion of the Head Committee.

The parliament by voting passed the NA draft decision on Special Procedure of the Debate of the Agenda Item of the Extraordinary Session. The MPs set two hours for the debate.

As the Chair of the RA Water Committee Karen Sargsyan presented, the draft law on Making Addenda to the Law on Approving the Annual and Complex Programmes for the Restoration, Preservation, Reproduction and Use of Lake Sevan Ecosystem was debated.

According to the Chair of the RA Water Committee, the water flow has abruptly reduced on Marmarik, Hrazdan, Kasakh and Azat conditioned by the hot weather and rare precipitations, hence the necessity of filling in the water demand. The draft law proposes to establish up to 245mln m3 annual maximum amount of water leakage from the Lake Sevan in 2021.

The National Assembly by voting passed the debated draft law during the extraordinary session.
